About the IGC

The Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC), the scientific arm of the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, is a world-renowned, leading research institute, dedicated to fundamental and biomedically applied research, to innovative graduate and post-graduate level training, and to the betterment of society through science.

The IGC is comprised of about 400 scientists, technicians, students, support and service personnel, of over 40 different nationalities, who explore original scientific and societal issues on a daily basis, in an interdisciplinary, inclusive and collaborative environment, and supported by cutting-edge technology.

The Science & Society group at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência has the mission of promoting the values of science in society, and bringing citizens closer to science, promoting an admittedly critical, participatory, confident, knowledgeable and inclusive identity. To this end, the Science & Society group, in which the Lab in a Box project is included, develops science communication, citizen science and education initiatives with the most varied audiences..
