Ana Mena was Coordinator of the Public Engagement unit at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência. She graduated in Microbial Biology and Genetics from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon in 2000, and in 2008 completed her PhD in Cell Biology by the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. She then started working in science communication, becoming coordinator of the IGC Science Communication and External Relations unit in 2012, in which she was responsible for institutional communication and the IGC press office. Since then, Ana coordinated the development of science education programs and public involvement in science. The scope of the activities developed by Ana’s team includes pre-school to secondary teacher training actions in biological sciences and development of educational resources in the form of experimental protocols and multimedia resources (animations), amongst others. She has received awards from the Casa das Ciências (Portugal) and Ciencia en Acción (Spain).
