Leonor Ruivo has a degree in Biochemistry from the University of Bath (UK), and a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Bristol (UK). Born in Angola, she has a strong interest in education in general, neuroeducation in particular, and in public engagement. She has always dedicated herself to teaching and participating in science festivals, as a way to help establish the connection between the worlds of research and the general public. She is now coordinating the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência’s Graduate Program Science for Development or PGCD program, as well as the implementation of the “Lab in a Box” project arms that are taking place in collaboration with educational institutions of the PALOP (African Countries of Portuguese Official Language). Leonor sees this project as an opportunity to incorporate pedagogical activities and tools that, when adapted to the local context of each school, will bring innovation to the teaching and the learning of natural sciences.
