Rodrigo Abril de Abreu

Rodrigo Abril de Abreu was the Project Manager (“Coordenador”) of the “Lab in a Box – Future with Science” (LiB) project from 2019 to 2022. Working in collaboration with Joana Loureiro, he was in charge of the project’s professionalization, new development for elementary and middle school level education, and its implementation for the 1st time in portuguese schools. Also, for preparing the basis for the project’s scaling up to different portuguese regions and PALOP countries.

Rodrigo has a unique set of transversal competencies and experience in developing science communication and educational projects. He graduated in Technological Physics Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon and holds a PhD in Neuroscience from the PhD Program in Neurosciences of the Champalimaud Foundation (INDP) and NOVA University Lisbon. He developed his doctoral thesis at the University of Vienna (Austria), the Institute of Applied Psychology (ISPA) and Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC), where he investigated cognitive mechanisms of social behavior. He was also an invited researcher (neuroscientist) at the ERC-funded Blackbox – Arts & Cognition Project, at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences – NOVA University Lisbon (FCSH-UNL), where he studied creative decision-making processes in the performing arts.

Outside the world of science, Rodrigo has also worked as a creative copywriter and strategic planner in Advertising Agencies, as creative strategy consultant, and is a published author of illustrated children’s books.
